Recipe facts:
Takes: 10 mins to prepare and 45 mins to cook
Serves: 2

450g (1lb) cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
10 frozen figs
50g (2oz) sugar
½tsp ground mixed spice
50g 2(oz) plain wholemeal flour
50g (2oz) butter
50g (2oz) light soft brown sugar
50g (2oz) rolled oats (porridge oats)

Preheat the oven to Gas 5, 190°C, fan 170°C.

Place the apples, figs, sugar and spice into a saucepan and cook on a low heat for 15 minutes until the apples have softened into a pulp. Then pour the apple mixture into an ovenproof dish.

Meanwhile make the crumble topping by sifting the flour into a bowl and rubbing in the butter. When the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs stir in the sugar and oats.

Spoon crumble mixture onto apple and figs and press down lightly. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the topping is golden.

Serve with custard, cream or fromage frais.
